Unit 3A is mainly to review some of the most important things (or at least very basic things) you learnt in Básico 1. If you want to review anything from Básico 1:
(be) going to + infinitive
(to talk about future plans)
I am going to visit my relatives in Madrid next month. I am not going to visit my relatives in Madrid next month. Are you going to visit your relatives in Madrid next month?
· tonight
· tomorrow
· next week, next weekend, next month, next summer, next year
· on Sunday
Answers:
Yes, I am. / No, I'm not.
With the verb go you can say: I'm going togo to Madrid next week. = I'm going to Madrid next week.
Watch out!!! In song lyrics going to is sometimes spelt gonna because of the way it is pronounced, e.g. I'm gonna /ˈɡɒnə/ love you for the rest of my life. = I'm going to /ˈɡəʊɪŋ tə/ love you for the rest of my life. (Jennifer Love Hewitt, I'm Gonna Love You).
There is another form to express the future: I will always love you, to express promises. But you will learn it next year in Básico 2.
Typical mistakes:
· don't forget to use the verb to be before going to, e.g. I going to visit my parents next weekend; I'm going to visit my parents next weekend.
· FUTURE PREDICTIONS: (be) going to + infinitive
a prediction = is something you think is going to happen.
(be) going to + infinitive
(to talk about predictions)
You are going to meet a man and fall in love with him. I am not going to meet a man and fall in love with him. Are you going to meet a man and fall in love with him?
· tonight
· tomorrow
· next week, next weekend, next month, next year
· on Sunday
Answers:
